tired of trash

And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
Genesis 39:12

like Joseph of old
sometimes you just have to know when to go
not just amble, but run

i just threw a book in the trash

attempting to overlook the language
some sleazy talk
thinking...that's got to be it

here's the deal,
i loathe waste

i am someone who scrapes every last bit of mayo and peanut butter out of the jar
or saves the foil from baked potatoes to reuse
or turns off the lights in empty rooms... or the water aimlessly running
slow to turn on the air conditioner when it's hot
or the heater in the Fall

i painted this phrase over one of my kid's closets,
"wear it out, use it up, make it do or do without."

i've probably spent four hours
and wasted eight or nine bucks

to be insulted

it took until page 94 to finally think
"this is not good for you"

this book came highly recommended
albeit a blog site
i thought we would share similar standards
hey, i'm not a prude
and she's not bad
i'm disappointed

"if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, or praiseworthy ...
we seek after these things."

whewh, now i'm smiling and feeling much better
sweet dreams

worth 1000 words

sometimes it takes a photograph to see
what was apparent all along
sometimes we sail through life
side by side
not noticing
hardly looking
a brief sideways glance

but then a picture
filled with color
and gray
shiny and scrubbed
forever noise in his ear
eyes will speak volumes
he sees

he always has
this jolly man
he always has
he looks my way

thank Thee

Thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.

Nehemiah 9:17

he's home safe and strong
steaming bowl of water
pioneer example
goodly parents
His loving kindness
perfect example
blister is gone
enough and to spare
long suffering

(painting by Minerva Teichert)

she said...

"dummy-up," she said

the first time i ever heard that term
i was young
maybe in the car
spoken by my mother

"what does that mean?"

"make like a dummy," she replied

i remember thinking of edgar bergen
and his friend
Charlie McCarthy

she want's me to stop talking

not so long ago this very same
"dummy-up" hopped out of my mouth

i was standing at the kitchen sink
my back to the target
directed at my adored brother
it just hopped

funny thing is...he knew exactly what i meant
and where i had heard it

i can never be sure
when my mother will show up

the invitation

he wrote....

it came today
in the mail
an offer hard to refuse
i didn't know i was looking for it
but the minute i read it
i knew
there is nothing quite like
being wanted

imagine that

with the promise of dropping by
"i know you will do what is best"
just what is a grammy to do

first i want to squeeze the daylights
out of that little dickens

and then pack my things

the jetty

on the jetty

small body wedged

odds and ends
this and that
washed in with the tide
ocean lovelies

sea creatures foreign
to desert dwellers
ready to pinch

thrilled with this find
the rest used as bait

reminders everywhere
of His beauty
the smell, the sound
the briney feel

to search the jetty
to love the ocean
to remember Heavenly Father
to embrace each other

we are found

overhead bowling
tree leaves shiver ... quiver
i listen
my very favorite weather
it always shouts
"pay attention; you are puny"

what can compare
these low deep rumblings
make me feel quiet
i listen
His power

so far Pennsylvania
offered the grandest electricity

still it was Colorado
our house hit
dropping the ceiling
splinters of wood
protruding like arrows
shot with fury
the boom shook
we shook
then the house smelled like caps
the kind i pounded as a kid
rock - caps - etching soot on the curb
my baby's room
scattered debris in his wee bed
he safely nursed and tucked away in my room
a wonder

when it's time to leave
i will hope
to be struck
yes, a method of death wish

if only i would hear the crack

oh how i love lightening and thunder

look and live

she was four
when big sister married
a sad day for little one
she cried
stood at sister's side through
wedding reception line
a second mother

and then
not too long
big sister
birthed her own little girl

He always provides

last night at the beach
hands clasped
one more time
pure love
looks like this

she's in heaven

who would have thought?
believe me
i tried
wrong on so many levels
my darling little Mormon girl
rave beads

she hounded
from Salt Lake to Mesquite
"can i just spend $1 in the slots"
which ended up $2 or three

control went out the window
long ago

what does it be "right"

child of God
kind heart

and when all was balanced on the scales
stoping for a smoke
showing us how to be "lucky"
her giggling
our feet melting into that hot hell
10 in the morning pavement

being right and uptight
just seemed wrong

in the end
hugs win

fifteen beach kids

twelve years to five months
and everything in between
beach pals

sun kissed
my darling hearts

did a girl from Bountiful
ever dream
such bounty

the water swirled with flecks of gold
each cool wave
as sands of the sea
His astounding goodness

what's more American than baseball?

all it takes

a bucket of balls

they came to play

to cheer

to practice

to swing

"you stand like this"

hold your head just so

but if you hit the prepared

it's all in fun

but it gets competitive

big daddy's in heaven

from Boise

and Chicago

pretty cute

and wee babe

this girl loves sports
and knows her stuff

got off work

all for the love

oh, and let's not forget dorothy

there really is no place like home

what started out bright and sunny
in a blink

now forever 17
she always was ageless

humbly i watched
an army of angels
lifting the hands
that hang down weary

truly a society of women
to offer relief
binding up the broken hearted
all in His name
for the love of the One
ever ready to save
