Nothing Gold Can Stay
by Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold,
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

i am trying to be happy about summer's farewell.
because i love autumn so... it's easy to smile.

Thank you so much for reminding me of that poem--When I taught the OUTSIDERS in 7th grade literature, we, of course, studied that poem because it is in the book. When I asked the meaning of the poem, the answers they gave me were astounding, comparing it to the birth of a baby and its innocence but how soon that child sees the world in a whole different light, a light that is filled with too much knowledge of the other colors besides gold.
