surprise!

we wanted to surprise the little kids

to see them smile and squeeze those bodies

we hoped to sneak up

then spend two or three days

and nights

rising pre-dawn 

magic

dreams that soar

we ate, laughed, got a quilt ready,

some swimming, saw a movie 

watched football

a five hour drive

a swell surprise
