define daddy

all those years ago
i chose a daddy
steady
faithful
true

all those years ago
how could i know
eight little children
would grow
looking up to you

all those years ago
each day in between
you showed up
did what it takes
logged millions of miles
to make our world go round

so many years ago
i knelt in prayer
"is he ok?"
"please let me know"
and then the leap

years
filled with pinewood derby's
beach vacations
desert hikes
family prayer
priesthood advancement
youth activities
scripture study
roll the daddy off the bed
lugging kids upstairs on your back
to tuck away
"Sunday Special"
BYU football
fishing
baseball
hugs and approval
happy shots

dad
sacred stewardship
holy work
lead guide provide
love

my sweetheart
their daddy
we celebrate you
always

all those years ago
a planted seed
now glorious blooms

Psalm 127:3-5 “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

Happy Father's Day Jer! A sweet tribute. I think we'll have to try that game - "rolling daddy off the bed!" Love to you and yours!

For some reason as I read this post an odd memory surfaced in my mind. I was jumping on the trampoline on our driveway with the Penfield boys when one of them said, "your dad is short." I don't know why I was so offended, but I retorted with a kick to the gut by saying, "at least he has all of his fingers." I was defensive for my short daddy! I love him so dearly.
