last morning in April

this morning
looking out bedroom window
my gauge of what to expect
snow
cold
clean
white
and birds singing
just the same

 i turn on the news

to date
200,000 gallons of oil
spilled in the Gulf
massive
out of control
(sigh)

then i roll over
a witness
to pure love
innocence
devotion

for me
it's a beautiful day

to look

my desk
dining room table
facing front door
ever watching
who comes
who goes

but,
sometimes i find myself
gazing
wondering
looking out the window over the front door
astounded
by such beauty

today

today
camera in hand
looking East
front porch
shivering
thinking

where
will this snow go
other than my home

Nevada
Arizona
California

thankful for precious water
thankful for sun and seeds
thankful for farmers
thankful for migrant workers

so thankful for life giving snow

but,
when i drive past
lush green golf courses
with 30 foot high fountains
outside of Las Vegas
or St. George
or Mesquite
and it's 103 degrees outside

i am irritated
ashamed
such flagrant waste

yesterday

yesterday
i went outside
pointed my camera West
and wished
for more days
just like this

today
a promising start
but the wind
oh the wind
is rattling and swaying
bringing rain
possibly snow

drats
dang
for pete's sake
no wonder
no planting
until Mother's Day
has passed

earth day

The poetry of the earth is never dead.
John Keats

to honor earth
is to honor oneself
and He who is the author of all living

everywhere
abundance and blessings
so much to be thankful for

this earth shows up and puts forth
fulfilling all righteousness
serving man

my debt is great

presto change-o

my friend and neighbor Joe called me this morning after his wife Janet read about my car mess. he had a great suggestion.

call this guy. not only was he out to MY house after 20 minutes--he was talented enough to fix my car and a small ding in my sweetie-pie's car door.

that's right! i am grinning from ear to ear. i went from glum to wow.
even though it started to rain...boy howdy, i'm feeling sunny.

look at what an amazing job this dude did. magic.

thank you Joe and Janet...i'm blowing kisses your way! xox

batter up!

what are the odds
attending grandsons baseball game

foul ball
up over back stop
high up over snack shack

oh. my. heck.
what was that thunk?

dang!
did that hit my car?
someone yells
"it hit the MINI"

you've

got

to be kidding?

nope...no one was joking

such bad luck!

so today i went to Dave's

home of the invisible repair

more like
now you see your money
now you don't

such crummy luck

for an otherwise beautiful Spring
baseball day

the. end.

...

another year older and wiser too...

we had a party
we ate spaghetti
savory warm french bread
color filled salad
two choices of cake
spice or rum

we celebrated
another birthday
but mostly
being together

we laughed
told stories
teased

laughed some more
swapped recipes
enjoyed children

some stuffed grapes
under upper lip

while Pretty Cute gathered Spring
(sorry neighbors)

they came from far away

opened hearts
shared
because
we are family

forever

birthday boy

an elliptical journey
around the sun...

my son
speeding through space
67,000 mph
today completing
this trip
thirty-five times

if only we could
slow down
i never get enough
of you

so much to celebrate
admire
but today i remember
my walking buddy
miles of sharing
commiserating
wonder
and dreams

dear one
you birthed
a mother
creating new
purpose
meaning
another life

you
will always
be
my
boy

most cherished gift

the pear

one quick glance
damaged
scrapes
bruises
discoloration

but once inside
juicy
sweet
filling
perfect

nourished

today i saw the earth on my plate
wind
rain
sun
soil
bees
seeds
sowing
reaping

just how far
how many hands
can i ever thank
enough

today i ate sunshine
and you know what?

it brightened up my day

lips that speak no guile

sometimes i say the wrong thing
sometimes i eat too much
sometimes i'm the only one laughing
but,
for the most part
i speak
i eat
i kiss
and smile
just right

For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: 1 Peter 3:10

baby love

eddie, david boy and mama

She says I shall now have one mouth the more to fill and two feet the more to shoe, more disturbed nights, more laborious days, and less leisure or visiting, reading, music, and drawing. Well! This is one side of the story, to be sure, but I look at the other. Here is a sweet fragrant mouth to kiss; here are two more feet to make music with their pattering about my nursery. Here is a soul to train for God; and the body in which it dwells is worthy all it will cost, since it is the abode of a kingly tenant. I may see less of friends, but I have gained one dearer than them all, to whom, while I minister in Christ’s name, I make a willing sacrifice of what little leisure for my own recreation my other darlings had left me. Yes, my precious baby, you are welcome to your mother’s heart, welcome to her time, her strength, her health, her tenderest cares, to her lifelong prayers!
from Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss

And again tonight I offer a mother's prayer for each of my darling hearts, and their dear ones.

happy for them

these are the faces
my boys and girls
each photo taken
as a
senior in high school
except youngest

and now
another project
time to update
redo
take apart
she is ready

but,
with each change
each year
each slam of the door
i have to wonder
as beds stay made

where was i
when they left
for good

Isaiah 53

2For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

a holy season
reminding me
because You lived
families can be forever

a tender plant
despised, rejected
but here
loved and embraced

like sheep
who have strayed
 we listen for
the shepherd
our perfect example
