yesterday in our world

because of you
the bell tolls for me

No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

John Donne

it's hard to take in the magnitude of all of this ...

This reminds me of the Russian belief/idea that when one man suffers, he is suffering for all mankind. As if there were a big pot of suffering, and each time one suffers, he is taking out of that pot, and away from someone else; preventing the suffering they might have experienced one day. in your suffering, you experience the beauty of coming into light of christ, becoming more like him.

such a fitting poem. such a scary thing that happened yesterday...that is happening still. we need to be better, all of us. we need to be better for each other, for our earth.

OH yes. Perfect saying for today. It is hard to go on like normal when so many are suffering.
